Preserving our Good Home Training
“So much of what we know and remember about our family history begins with a story, a faded photo or a video on a VHS tape.“
Through our research on Malinda Russell and the only known copy of her cookbook, believed to be self published in 1866, it became clear that Good Home Training begins with storytelling and continues with the preservation of family records. By learning how to archive and safely store our memories, we can call forth ancestral wisdom at any given moment and ensure that it’s available for generations to come.
During our screenings of Good Home Training at festivals, museums and galleries across the country, we are also creating activations that show attendees how to capture, preserve and archive their stories, photos, videos, and family keepsakes.
The Good Home Training Preservation Project will function as a living archive of this incredible moment in time by offering family portraits and workshops to help people learn how to extend the life of their historical records.
Preserving our family archives is more important than ever as technologies change and museums remove important cultural artifacts. Photos, documents and recordings are biographical proof of your family’s legacy and must be safely stored.
