GOOD HOME TRAINING:
How Black Women Raised America and Shaped The Way We Live.

The Documentary

IN THIS FEATURE-LENGTH FILM, we explore how Black women have historically used their style and expertise as homemakers, tastemakers, designers, culinarians and entrepreneurs to create homes for their families and influence American style, food and culture.

AS WE TRAVEL ACROSS AMERICA, we visit historic homes, cook original recipes and walk in the footsteps of women who have shown us how to build a home and live a life that really matters. With the help of a new generation of experts and tastemakers, we discover why each woman's journey embodies what the elders would call "good home training," a term that's as relevant today as it was hundreds of years ago.

what is “good home training”?

"Good home training" is an African American colloquialism that generally refers to proper manners and social etiquette taught at home, but it also includes the public survival skills Black children have to learn to ensure their success and safety in the world at large.
